** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Ižūns (Ižūna ezers) typically follows the seasonal patterns of small Latvian lakes. In spring the water warms slowly, often ranging from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and runoff cools the surface. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly between 17–23 °C (63–73 °F) on warm days; shallow bays can be a few degrees warmer while deeper spots stay cooler. In autumn temperatures fall back to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air chills and stratification breaks down. During winter the lake surface usually freezes and the water just below the ice typically sits near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), conditions that are inhospitable for prolonged exposure but are common under ice cover.
Swimming in Ižūns is generally possible in the warmer months and is a common recreational activity when surface temperatures are comfortable and water quality is good. There are no universal bans on swimming in most Latvian inland lakes, but local restrictions, posted warnings, or temporary advisories can occur—often due to poor water quality, cyanobacterial blooms, or safety concerns. There may be no lifeguards or facilities at informal spots, so swimmers should judge conditions, avoid cold or sudden depth changes, and observe local signage. Winter ice swimming is practiced in Latvia but requires proper safety measures and local knowledge.
