*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Lielais Ludzas (Lielais Ludzas ezers) in eastern Latvia experiences clear seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In spring (April–May) temperatures typically rise from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and the sun gains strength. Summer (June–August) is the warmest period, with common surface temperatures around 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) and occasional heatwaves pushing readings slightly higher. In autumn (September–November) the water cools again, often falling into the 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) range. During winter months the lake usually freezes; water just beneath the ice remains near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), while exposed surface water will of course be at or below freezing.
Swimming in Lielais Ludzas is generally allowed during the ice-free season at public beaches and informal access points, and many visitors swim in summer when temperatures are most comfortable. Local authorities may restrict bathing temporarily for safety or water-quality reasons, for example during strong winds, poor visibility, or algal blooms. Winter ice swimming or plunges occur locally but require proper supervision, ice-thickness checks and equipment; without those precautions, cold-water exposure and thin ice make swimming unsafe.
