Lake Mantovo is an artificial accumulation in the eastern part of North Macedonia, primarily constructed for irrigation purposes in the agricultural region of Radoviš. As a relatively shallow reservoir located in an area with a moderate continental climate, the lake's water temperature experiences a substantial seasonal variation. In the winter months, the water cools significantly, typically settling between 4∘C and 8∘C, with possible surface freezing during the coldest periods. However, during the hot and prolonged summers, the shallower nature of the lake allows the water to absorb heat effectively, often warming the surface to a comfortable 22∘C to 25∘C.
Swimming in Lake Mantovo is informally practiced by locals during the height of the summer, but it is not officially regulated or designated as a public swimming area. While the summer temperatures are very suitable for bathing, the lack of designated beaches, lifeguard services, and public health checks on water quality means that swimming is conducted at one's own risk.
