*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Plisūns, like many small inland lakes in Latvia, shows pronounced seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In spring (April–May) the water typically warms from around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts and solar heating increases. Summer surface temperatures (June–August) are most comfortable for bathing and commonly range from about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), occasionally reaching the mid‑20s °C (mid‑70s °F) during heat waves. In autumn (September–October) the lake cools again to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F). During late autumn and winter months the surface is often near or below 4 °C (39 °F) and the lake can freeze, with sub‑ice water remaining close to 4 °C (39 °F) near the bottom until spring turnover.
Swimming in Plisūns is generally possible and is most common in the warmer months when temperatures are comfortable; there are no inherent physical reasons a lake of this type would be closed year‑round. Local authorities or landowners may restrict bathing for reasons such as water‑quality advisories, blue‑green algae outbreaks, safety hazards, or protected habitat regulations, so it is sensible to observe signage and check conditions before entering the water. Winter swimming (ice bathing) is practiced by some experienced people but requires safe ice thickness, supervision, and proper precautions; otherwise it is not recommended.
