*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tosmare, located near Ventspils in northwestern Latvia, experiences water temperatures that vary strongly through the year due to seasonal air temperatures, wind exposure and the lake’s depth and connections to nearby waterways. In spring the surface usually warms from around 2–12 °C (36–54 °F) as ice melts and the sun returns. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach 16–25 °C (61–77 °F) on warm days, though shallow areas may warm faster and occasional heat waves can push temperatures slightly higher. By autumn the water cools to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) and in winter surface temperatures fall toward freezing, about 0 °C (32 °F), with ice cover likely in colder months (typically December–March) depending on the year.
Swimming in Lake Tosmare is not universally banned, but opportunities depend on local conditions and official guidance. Some shoreline spots are used by residents for bathing during summer when temperatures and bacterial test results are acceptable; however, parts of the lake are influenced by nearby port activity and inflows, which can cause variable water quality and occasional pollution or debris. For safety, swimmers should follow municipal advisories and posted signs, avoid swimming after heavy runoff, be mindful of boat traffic and unknown underwater hazards, and choose designated bathing areas when available.
