** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Kaņieris (Kaņieru ezers) is a relatively shallow coastal lake, so its water temperatures follow seasonal patterns closely and can change quickly with the weather. Typical spring temperatures are about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the lake thaws, summer surface temperatures commonly sit between 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) and can locally climb to around 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) during hot spells, while autumn usually brings a cooling to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). In winter the lake commonly freezes and water temperatures at the surface are near 0 °C (32 °F) or below, with ice cover persistent for parts of the season when air temperatures remain low. Because the lake is shallow and has extensive reedbeds, warm spells can produce rapid warming at the surface and occasional algal growth, affecting perceived water quality.
Swimming in and around Lake Kaņieris is possible in many places but is not the lake’s primary recreational use, and there are practical and conservation considerations. Parts of the shoreline and surrounding wetlands are protected for birdlife and habitat, so access can be restricted seasonally; in addition, reedbeds, shallow soft bottoms and occasional algal blooms can make some spots unsuitable or unsafe for casual swimming. Where local rules and signage permit, people swim from shore or boats in summer; in winter, ice swimming is practiced by some but requires careful assessment of ice thickness and safety.
