*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gostivar is situated in the upper course of the Vardar River, close to its source, meaning the river's water here is notably colder and clearer than in its downstream sections. Due to its higher altitude and proximity to mountain springs, the Vardar maintains a very cool temperature year-round. In winter, the water temperature is near freezing, ranging from 1∘C to 5∘C. Even during the summer months, the temperature remains brisk, typically hovering between 12∘C and 18∘C, with surface layers sometimes reaching the higher end on the hottest days.
Swimming in the Vardar River near Gostivar is often done locally but is generally not officially recommended as a designated bathing area. While the water quality in the upper Vardar is significantly better than near the capital, it still receives some urban runoff as it flows through the town. The primary deterrent to swimming is the extremely cold temperature, which can cause thermal shock, and the strong, fast-flowing current, which can pose a safety risk. Therefore, any swimming activity is informal, carried out at one’s own risk, and usually limited to very brief dips during the peak summer heat.
