Location & Local Information
Debar is a town in western North Macedonia, located on the shores of Debar Lake, a large artificial reservoir formed on the Crn Drim River. The lake has a moderate mountain climate, with its water temperature influenced by the surrounding terrain and inflows from mountain springs. In winter, the temperature drops to around 4–7 °C, while in summer it usually ranges between 20–25 °C, depending on weather conditions. The water is clear and relatively clean, and during the warm months it becomes suitable for recreational use.
Swimming in Debar Lake is allowed and popular among locals and tourists, especially from June to early September when the water is at its most pleasant. The lake’s calm surface and easily accessible shores make it suitable for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. However, as it is an artificial reservoir, caution is advised near deeper parts. Surrounded by scenic hills and fresh air, Debar Lake is one of the region’s main summer attractions, offering both relaxation and natural beauty.
