Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mitrovica (Mitrovicë / Косовска Митровица) is a city in northern Kosovo where the Ibar River flows, famously dividing the municipality. The river’s water temperature is heavily influenced by the upstream Gazivoda Lake reservoir, from which water is released from the bottom layer. Consequently, the Ibar River is exceptionally cold year-round downstream of the dam. Even in winter, the temperature remains low, typically ranging between 4∘C and 9∘C. During the summer, the temperature may rise slightly due to solar exposure and confluences, but it rarely becomes comfortable for swimming, generally remaining in the range of 12∘C to 16∘C.
Swimming in the Ibar River near Mitrovica is strongly discouraged and generally prohibited for reasons of safety and health. The combination of the frigid water temperature, which poses a high risk of hypothermia, and the river’s strong, often torrential currents makes it dangerous for recreational use. Furthermore, as the river passes through urban and industrial areas, its water quality is compromised by untreated discharges, making it hygienically unsuitable for public bathing. Authorities advise against swimming to prevent both serious accidents and waterborne infections.
