Prokuplje, a town in southern Serbia, lies along the Toplica River, which flows through a valley surrounded by gentle hills and fertile land. The river’s water temperature changes significantly with the seasons due to the continental climate of the region. In spring, the Toplica usually has temperatures between 10 and 15 °C, while in summer it warms up to 20–25 °C in shallower and slower sections. During autumn, the temperature decreases to around 14–18 °C, and in winter it can fall below 5 °C, sometimes even partially freezing near the banks. These variations reflect both the altitude and the river’s natural flow from the nearby mountains.
Swimming in the Toplica River near Prokuplje is possible but not officially organized. Locals often swim or cool off during the warmest summer months when the water becomes comfortable.
