** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Švėtė (Svete) River in northern Lithuania typically shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river is often near freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), and frequently ice-covered for periods. During spring, as snowmelt and runoff increase, temperatures commonly rise to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). In summer the shallow, slow-flowing sections warm most, with typical surface temperatures ranging roughly 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) on warmer days, though deeper or faster stretches remain several degrees cooler. Autumn brings a steady cooling, with water usually between 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) before the onset of winter freeze.
Swimming in the Švėtė is generally possible in summer months when temperatures are most comfortable, and local residents do swim in suitable spots. However, there are usually no formal lifeguarded beaches on small rivers, and access, depth, currents, vegetation and water quality can vary along the course. Swimming may be discouraged after heavy rain due to increased turbidity and agricultural runoff, and some stretches may have underwater hazards or stronger currents near banks and confluences. Visitors should follow local signage, exercise caution, and avoid risky areas even when surface temperatures appear pleasant.
