*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Mazā Jugla runs through the Riga region and its water temperature varies widely with the seasons. During summer months the surface typically warms to about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and in shallow, slow sections it can reach up to roughly 24 °C (75 °F) during heat spells. In spring, during snowmelt and cooling nights, temperatures are low, commonly around 2–10 °C (36–50 °F). Autumn waters generally fall into the 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) range as air temperatures drop. In winter the river is near freezing, about 0 °C (32 °F), and many stretches freeze over, making open-water swimming impractical and unsafe.
Swimming in the Mazā Jugla is generally possible because there is no blanket legal ban on entering natural rivers, but opportunities depend on location and local management. Some spots are used for bathing or informal swimming, yet official lifeguarded beaches are limited and water-quality monitoring is not uniform along the whole course. Risks include variable water quality after rain, submerged obstacles, local currents, and the cold-shock danger in spring and autumn; ice and thin cover make winter swimming hazardous without proper experience and supervision. For safety it is advisable to choose designated bathing sites where available and follow local guidance.
