** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Cena is a modest Latvian river whose water temperature follows the country's seasonal pattern. In winter the river is at or very near freezing and often becomes ice-covered, with liquid water beneath the ice typically close to 0 °C (around 32 °F). During spring, as snowmelt and rain raise flows, temperatures commonly range from about 1–12 °C (34–54 °F). In summer the warmest stretches may reach roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), though shaded, faster-flowing sections often remain cooler. In autumn the river cools again to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures fall and daylight shortens.
Swimming in the Cena is generally possible in summer when temperatures are most comfortable, but it is not universally encouraged in every spot. There are no nationwide bans specific to the river, yet practical and safety considerations determine whether a location is suitable: sections with shallow, slow water and gentle banks are easier and safer for bathing, while narrow or faster reaches, debris, submerged plants and variable water quality after rains can make swimming hazardous. Local signs, private land boundaries and municipal guidance should be checked, and swimmers should be aware of cooler temperatures even in summer that can cause cold shock, particularly for prolonged immersion.
