*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Soča River, flowing through western Slovenia and northeastern Italy, is famous for its stunning turquoise water and alpine landscapes. Because it originates in the Julian Alps, the water remains cold even in summer. In the warmest months, from June to August, surface temperatures in slower and shallow sections usually reach 16–20°C, while in faster or deeper areas it stays closer to 10–14°C. In spring and autumn, the temperature drops to around 8–14°C, and in winter it can reach 4–6°C or lower.

Swimming in the Soča is possible, particularly in calmer pools, bends, and small lakes formed along the river. These areas are popular with locals and visitors seeking a refreshing dip. However, caution is required in stronger currents, as some sections can be swift and dangerous. Kayaking, rafting, and other water sports are also common due to the river’s fast flow in certain stretches.

Outside of summer, swimming is uncommon because of low temperatures and rapid currents. The Soča remains a major attraction for hiking, canyoning, and enjoying the alpine scenery. Even a short summer dip in a calm pool can be very refreshing and invigorating.
