Location & Local Information
The Kokra River runs through northern Slovenia, cutting a deep canyon near Kranj before joining the Sava. Originating in the alpine region, its water is fed by springs and mountain streams, which keeps it cold throughout the year. Even in the middle of summer, the temperature of the Kokra remains low, often refreshing but too chilly for long swims. This makes it more appealing for short dips rather than extended bathing.
Swimming in the Kokra is not widespread, but there are a few calm spots where locals sometimes cool off on hot days. The river’s narrow canyon and rocky bed make many stretches unsuitable for safe bathing, though smaller pools and gentler sections offer opportunities for a quick plunge. More commonly, visitors enjoy the cool air along the riverbanks or simply dip their feet in after walking nearby trails.
