Location & Local Information
The town of Solkan lies along the Soča River in western Slovenia, close to the Italian border. At this point, the river flows through a mix of urban areas, green spaces, and rocky riverbeds. Because the Soča originates in the Julian Alps, the water remains relatively cool even in summer. From June to August, surface temperatures in calmer and shallower sections near Solkan usually reach 16–20°C, while faster and deeper sections stay around 10–14°C. In spring and autumn, the water typically ranges from 8–14°C, and in winter it can drop to 4–6°C.
Swimming in the Soča near Solkan is mostly possible in slower pools and gentler bends along the river.
