*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Ribble, flowing from the Yorkshire Dales through Lancashire to the Irish Sea, is one of northern England’s most varied and picturesque rivers. Its temperature reflects the region’s temperate but often cool climate, with seasonal changes influenced by rainfall and upland springs. In winter, the Ribble typically measures between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), staying cold and energetic as it flows through the Dales. By spring, it gradually warms to around 8–11°C (46–52°F). During midsummer—particularly in July and August—the river can reach 15–18°C (59–64°F) in calm, lower stretches, while higher sections remain noticeably cooler. As autumn arrives, the water temperature falls again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a fresh, clean character throughout the year.
Swimming in the River Ribble is permitted and becoming more popular, especially in rural areas where the flow is steady and the water quality is high. The river’s deep pools and gentle bends near Settle, Clitheroe, and Preston offer inviting spots for wild swimming during warm weather. However, care is advised after rain, when the current can become strong. The Ribble Valley is also known for its scenic walking routes, fishing opportunities, and nearby attractions such as Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, making it an ideal destination for outdoor recreation.
