*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Aire, flowing from the Yorkshire Dales through Leeds and onward to the Ouse, is one of northern England’s most significant and diverse rivers. Its temperature reflects both upland and lowland influences, with cool headwaters and warmer, slower stretches downstream. In winter, the Aire typically measures between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), remaining cold and often fast-flowing after rainfall. As spring arrives, it gradually warms to around 8–11°C (46–52°F). During midsummer—especially in July and August—the river can reach 15–18°C (59–64°F) in calmer, sunlit sections. By early autumn, the temperature cools again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a steady freshness that continues into late October.
Swimming in the River Aire is allowed and becoming more popular, particularly where the water is clean and the current gentle. In rural areas near Gargrave and Bingley, the river offers quiet, scenic spots for wild swimming, while in urban sections through Leeds, improved water quality has encouraged paddleboarding and open-water events. Caution is advised after rain, when the current strengthens. The Aire Valley also provides excellent walking and cycling routes, and its surroundings feature attractions such as the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, Saltaire village, and the rolling landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales to the northwest.
