*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Don, flowing through South Yorkshire from the Pennine Hills to the Ouse, is one of northern England’s most historic and varied rivers. Its temperature reflects the region’s temperate but often cool climate, influenced by upland streams and urban stretches. In winter, the Don typically remains between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), staying cold and fast-moving. By spring, it warms gradually to around 8–10°C (46–50°F). During midsummer—especially in July and August—the water can reach 15–18°C (59–64°F) in sheltered, sunlit sections, while higher parts near the hills remain cooler. As autumn approaches, it cools again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a refreshing character throughout most of the year.
Swimming in the River Don is allowed and increasingly popular in cleaner sections, particularly in rural stretches outside Sheffield and Doncaster. Water quality has improved greatly in recent decades, making the river suitable for careful wild swimming during the warmer months. Swimmers should still be aware of changing depths and currents, especially after rain. Many prefer to enjoy the Don from its scenic walking routes or through canoeing and paddleboarding. The surrounding Don Valley also offers cultural and natural attractions, including Rother Valley Country Park, Sheffield’s canal network, and the historic sites of Conisbrough and Doncaster.
