*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Swale, one of the most scenic rivers in northern England, flows through the Yorkshire Dales before joining the River Ure to form the Ouse. Its fast-moving, rocky character and upland origins give it clear but cool water throughout the year. In winter, the Swale typically measures between 2 and 5°C (36–41°F), staying cold and lively after rain or snowmelt. By spring, it warms slightly to around 8–10°C (46–50°F). During midsummer, particularly in July and August, calmer pools and deeper sections can reach 15–17°C (59–63°F), while shaded or higher stretches remain cooler. As autumn approaches, temperatures fall again to around 9–11°C (48–52°F), keeping the water brisk even during milder weather.
Swimming in the River Swale is allowed and popular among experienced wild swimmers, especially in calmer areas near Richmond and Keld. The water is exceptionally clear and often shallow, but swimmers should be cautious of strong currents, sudden drops, and slippery rocks. On warm days, the river’s pools and waterfalls offer refreshing places for short dips and paddling. The Swale Valley is also known for its dramatic landscapes, walking trails, and waterfalls such as Kisdon Force and Richmond Falls, which make it one of Yorkshire’s most attractive river settings for outdoor recreation.
