** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Dee, flowing through North Wales and England, experiences a seasonal water temperature range typical of its latitude. In the winter, particularly in the upper reaches and near the Welsh mountains, temperatures can be quite cold, generally fluctuating between approximately 7∘C and 10∘C (45∘F to 50∘F). By mid-summer, the water warms considerably, especially downstream near Chester, often reaching 15∘C to 18.5∘C (59∘F to 65∘F), with occasional spikes above 20∘C (68∘F) during extreme heat.
Swimming is not officially promoted or designated in most areas of the River Dee due to the inherent dangers of open water, which include strong, unpredictable currents, especially after rain, and unseen obstacles. However, wild swimming is popular, particularly in sections near Llangollen such as the Rock Pools or Horseshoe Falls, and upstream from Chester. Swimmers assume the risk of the cold temperature shock and potential waterborne illnesses, as the river does not have designated bathing status. Beyond the water, nearby attractions include the historic city of Chester's Roman Walls and Cathedral, and the dramatic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
