Location & Local Information
The Mirna River flows through southeastern Slovenia, winding across a gentle landscape of hills and valleys before joining the Sava. As a lowland river, it responds more to seasonal weather than to snowmelt, which means that in spring the water is relatively cool, around 12–15°C, while in summer it can warm up to 20–24°C in shallow stretches. This makes it noticeably milder than alpine rivers, giving it more potential for casual bathing.
Swimming in the Mirna is not a widespread activity, yet locals sometimes use its calmer and wider sections to cool off during hot days. The river is more often appreciated for its peaceful surroundings, fishing opportunities, and the quiet countryside atmosphere it creates.
