Location & Local Information
The Kupa River, known as Kolpa in Slovenia, flows along the southern border of the country and is one of the warmest rivers suitable for swimming. During the summer months, the water temperature in Slovenia can reach 22–26°C, especially in slower, shallower sections. In spring and autumn, the river is cooler, usually around 14–18°C, while in winter temperatures drop to 4–6°C in most areas.
Swimming in the Kolpa is very popular, particularly in summer. The river has many calm, shallow spots with gentle banks, making it ideal for families and casual swimmers. Canoeing, kayaking, and other water sports are also common, thanks to the river's generally mild current and clear water.
Outside the warmest months, swimming becomes less frequent due to lower temperatures, but the river remains attractive for walking along its banks, picnicking, and enjoying nature. Even a short summer dip provides a refreshing break from the heat.
