** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Derbyshire
Fernilee Reservoir in Derbyshire sits in the Goyt Valley and is fed by cool upland streams, so water temperatures remain low year-round. Typical surface temperatures range from about 2–6 °C (36–43 °F) in winter, 5–10 °C (41–50 °F) in spring, 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) at the warmest points in summer, and 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) through autumn. Even in summer the water can feel sharply cold below the surface, and visibility and thermoclines can make conditions unpredictable for swimmers.
Swimming at Fernilee is generally not permitted or is strongly discouraged by the reservoir authorities because of cold water, sudden depth changes, submerged structures and intake pipes, and the absence of lifeguards. Some experienced wild swimmers may enter at their own risk when conditions are calm, but official guidance advises against it. The area remains attractive to visitors for walking and birdwatching, with the neighboring Errwood Reservoir, the Goyt Valley trails and Peak District scenery close by, and towns such as Whaley Bridge and Buxton offering amenities and additional outdoor routes.
