In these conditions, the risk of hypothermia is very high, and prolonged exposure to the water can be hazardous to your health. If you decide to swim, it is important to have the appropriate gear, such as a wetsuit. Typically, only experienced swimmers or those who practice winter swimming venture into such waters. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Flakavatnet is a mountain lake in the former Buskerud area of Norway. Surface water temperatures there follow a marked seasonal cycle. In winter the lake is often frozen or close to 0 °C (32 °F). Spring thaw typically yields surface temperatures around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) as snowmelt cools the water. In summer, when the sun and longer days warm shallow bays, temperatures commonly range from about 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), though deeper parts and shaded areas remain cooler. During autumn the surface begins to drop again, generally sitting between 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) before ice forms.
Swimming at Flakavatnet is generally possible from a legal-access perspective — Norway’s public right of access normally allows bathing in natural waters — but practical and safety considerations are important. The water is cold even in summer, which increases the risk of cold shock and cramps; weather can change quickly in upland areas and there are usually no lifeguards or facilities. People who choose to swim should do so close to shore, avoid solo swims, be prepared for rapid temperature changes, and consider protective gear such as a wetsuit. Local conditions (ice cover, water clarity, and currents) should always be checked before entering the water.
