The lake known locally as Λίμνη Στράτου (Stratos Lake) is a reservoir on the Acheloos River in western Greece whose surface temperatures follow a typical seasonal pattern for inland waterbodies in the region. In winter the water is cool, typically around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Spring brings gradual warming, with surface values often in the range of 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as the sun strengthens and inflows moderate. By summer the shallow, sheltered bays can reach about 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) at the surface, though deeper water stays noticeably colder. Autumn sees a steady cooling back toward roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) as air temperatures drop.
Swimming is commonly possible in warmer months, and locals and visitors use calmer bays and beaches when conditions allow, but access and safety vary. Because Stratos is a managed reservoir there are areas near the dam, intake structures and boat channels where swimming may be unsafe or officially restricted; sudden changes in water level, submerged hazards and local currents around outlets are the main concerns. Water quality can also change with seasons and rainfall, so it is sensible to heed posted signs and local guidance before entering the water.
