*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Silver Lake in Minnesota follows the typical seasonal pattern of small Midwestern lakes. In spring, after ice-out, surface temperatures usually rise from roughly 40–60°F (4–15°C) as the water mixes. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface temperatures commonly in the 65–78°F range (18–26°C) on warm days, although shallow bays can warm faster and sometimes exceed that. In autumn the lake cools to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) and stratification breaks down. During winter the surface is commonly at or below freezing and covered by ice; the very cold surface under ice is near 32°F (0°C) while deeper water stabilizes closer to water’s maximum density around 39°F (4°C).
Swimming is generally possible during the ice-free months, and people often use public beaches or launch points when temperatures and local water-quality testing indicate it is safe. Municipal rules, posted advisories and bacterial or algal bloom warnings determine whether swimming is recommended on any particular day, so checking local notices is important. Swimming is not safe when the lake is iced over, and cold or variable summer temperatures can pose risks such as cold-water shock or rapid loss of body heat for unacclimated swimmers, so caution and preparedness are advised.
