** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Seymour Lake in northern Vermont experiences a wide annual range of water temperatures driven by cold winters and mild summers. In winter the surface freezes and water at or under the ice is near 32°F (0°C), with deeper water hovering around the temperature of maximum density near 39°F (4°C). Spring thaw brings surface temperatures from roughly the mid 30s to the low 60s °F (about 2–16°C) as the lake stratifies. During the summer months the surface typically warms to about 68–78°F (20–26°C), with the warmest shallow bays sometimes climbing into the low 80s °F (≈27–28°C) in late July and August. By fall the surface cools again, dropping through the 50s and into the 40s °F (10–5°C) as the lake returns toward freeze-up.
Swimming is commonly practiced at Seymour Lake in the ice-free months because summer surface temperatures are generally comfortable for recreational bathing. Public access points and private shorelines both provide places to enter the water, but local rules, property ownership, and conditions such as water clarity, algal blooms, or the absence of lifeguards can affect whether swimming is advisable at a given spot. Winter swimming is unsafe except for experienced, well-supported winter swimmers, since ice cover and near‑freezing water present significant hazards.
