*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mooselookmeguntic Lake in western Maine experiences pronounced seasonal swings in surface water temperature. In spring, as ice melts, surface readings commonly run from about 40 to 60°F (4 to 16°C). By midsummer the surface typically warms to roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C), with warmest conditions in July and August when sheltered bays can reach the upper end of that range. In fall the surface cools through the 50s into the 40s °F (10–4°C) as the lake destratifies, and in winter the lake freezes in many years; surface waters at ice onset approach 32°F (0°C) while deeper layers remain near freshwater maximum density around 39°F (4°C). Because Mooselookmeguntic is relatively deep, a strong thermocline often means that even on warm days, deeper water stays much colder.
Swimming in Mooselookmeguntic Lake is a common recreational activity and is allowed where access points, campsites, and private properties permit entry. Summer months are the most comfortable for bathing because surface temperatures are highest; however, swimmers should be mindful of cold spots, sudden temperature changes, and the risk of hypothermia, especially outside peak summer. In winter the lake is typically ice-covered, so open-water swimming is not possible and ice safety, not bathing, becomes the primary concern. Local rules or posted advisories should be checked at specific access sites.
