** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Aziscohos Lake, a reservoir in western Maine, tends to be cool through much of the year because of its northern location and depth. Surface temperatures in winter are at or below freezing, with the lake ice-covered for months and water temperatures at or just above 32°F (0°C) beneath the ice. In spring the surface typically rises from roughly the mid-30s to mid-50s °F (about 2–13°C) as snowmelt and cool weather persist. During summer, surface readings most often fall in the range of roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C) on warm days, although winds and depth can keep many areas several degrees cooler; deeper water remains much colder year-round. In autumn the lake cools quickly, with surface temperatures dropping back into the 40s–50s °F (4–13°C) as the season progresses.
Swimming at Aziscohos Lake is commonly practiced by visitors and seasonal residents because there is public access and recreational use is allowed in most areas, but conditions warrant caution. The generally cool summer surface temperatures and much colder deeper layers increase the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia, particularly for inexperienced swimmers. There are limited lifeguard services and some shorelines have steep drop-offs, rocky bottoms or boat traffic, so swimmers should choose sheltered, shallow spots, wear flotation if appropriate, and avoid areas near the dam or in heavy boating channels. Local advisories or landowner rules may further restrict access at specific sites.
