** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Memphremagog’s surface water temperatures vary substantially through the year because it is a large, relatively deep freshwater lake. In spring the lake is cool as it mixes and warms, typically ranging from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) through April and May. By mid to late summer surface temperatures commonly rise to roughly 65–78°F (18–26°C) in July and August on warm years, while deeper water remains much colder year-round due to stratification. In early fall the surface usually falls back into the 45–60°F (7–15°C) range as cooling and turnover begin. In winter the lake develops ice cover in colder spells and surface temperatures sit near freezing, around 32°F (0°C).
Swimming is permitted and is a common recreational activity at public beaches and along accessible shorelines because the lake is used for recreation and has maintained access points. Summer conditions, when surface temperatures are in the mid‑60s to upper‑70s °F (about 18–26°C), are most comfortable for swimmers. Safety considerations include naturally cold deep water, variable currents and weather, and occasional water‑quality advisories (for example after heavy rains or for algal blooms), so swimmers should use guarded beaches when available and heed local postings and lifeguard guidance. Remote or winter swimming is not recommended without appropriate precautions.
