*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Avalsjøen in Innlandet County typically follows the seasonal patterns of inland Norwegian lakes. After ice break in spring, surface temperatures are often around 0–10 °C (32–50 °F) in April–May, rising to roughly 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) in early summer. The warmest period is usually July–August when surface readings commonly reach 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), and during warm spells can approach the low-to-mid 20s °C (71–76 °F). In autumn the lake cools to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) before refreezing in winter when surface temperatures are at or below 0 °C (32 °F) and ice cover can form.
Swimming at Avalsjøen is generally possible and commonly practiced in the warmer months, but it is not formally supervised unless local facilities specify otherwise, so bathers swim at their own risk. Access depends on shoreline ownership and any posted local restrictions, and water quality is typically good in rural inland lakes but should be checked locally if in doubt. Seasonal factors influence safety: cold spring and autumn waters pose cold-shock and hypothermia risks, and winter ice requires knowledge and caution. Wetsuits, gradual acclimatization and awareness of currents, weather and ice conditions are advisable for safer swimming.
