*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Nisser in Telemark typically shows clear seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In spring (April–May) the lake usually warms from around 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) as snowmelt and cooler air still dominate. Summer months (June–August) are when surface temperatures are highest, commonly ranging from roughly 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) on warm days; in sheltered bays or during heat spells temperatures can be a few degrees higher. In autumn (September–October) the surface cools again to approximately 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). During the coldest months the lake may freeze or carry lake ice; water just beneath the ice remains close to 0–2 °C (32–36 °F). Deeper parts of the lake stay significantly colder year-round than the surface.
Swimming in Nisser is permitted and commonly enjoyed in summer because of the milder surface temperatures and many accessible shores. Norwegian public access traditions and local bathing spots make swimming straightforward, but safety considerations are important: water can be chilly outside of the warmest weeks, deeper water and sudden drops in temperature increase cold-shock risk, and ice poses dangers in winter. Many people use wetsuits, choose sheltered beaches, or follow local guidance for safe swimming times and conditions.
