** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vegår is a freshwater lake in Agder County whose surface temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern of southern Norwegian lakes. In spring, as ice and runoff melt, surface temperatures commonly range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). During summer months, especially July and August, the lake often warms to roughly 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), and in sheltered, shallow bays temperatures can occasionally reach 23–24 °C (73–75 °F) in warm years. In autumn the water cools back to around 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), and in winter the lake approaches freezing, with surface temperatures near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and periodic ice cover in cold spells.
Swimming at Vegår is generally allowed and commonly practised, owing to Norway’s public right of access (allemannsretten) and numerous accessible shoreline spots. Water quality in the bathing season is typically suitable for recreation, making summer swimming the most comfortable option. Outside the warm months swimmers should be cautious because of cold temperatures, potential cold shock and hypothermia; ice cover in winter normally prevents regular swimming except for organised ice-swimming activities with proper equipment and safety measures. As always, local conditions and posted guidance should be checked before entering the water.
