** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Toke in Telemark County experiences a clear seasonal cycle in water temperature that reflects Norway’s temperate climate. In spring the surface water typically warms from around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as snowmelt and longer daylight increase inflow. Summer sees the warmest conditions, often ranging from about 17–24 °C (63–75 °F) on calm, sunny days, though deeper or wind-exposed areas remain cooler. In autumn temperatures generally fall back to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures drop and mixing increases. During winter the lake can approach freezing at the surface, with water near 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and ice formation in colder years; exact values depend on year-to-year weather, depth, location in the basin and wind-driven mixing.
Swimming in Toke is commonly possible and permitted in the same way as most Norwegian lakes, owing to public access rights and the presence of beaches, piers and informal spots along the shore. Many people swim in summer when surface temperatures are comfortable, but swimmers should be aware of boat traffic, varying depths, underwater vegetation and rapid cooling in shaded or deeper areas. Winter and early-spring swimming carry significant cold-water risks; if people choose to ice-swim or enter very cold water they should take appropriate safety precautions, use local knowledge and never swim alone.
