*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hovatn (Norwegian: Hovatn) is a freshwater lake in Agder county, set in fairly upland terrain, and its water temperatures reflect the cool Norwegian climate. Typical seasonal surface temperatures run from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) in spring, rising to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in the warmest months of June through August, with occasional brief peaks near 20 °C (68 °F) during heat spells. By autumn the surface cools back to around 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), and in winter the lake commonly approaches freezing and may be ice-covered, near 0 °C (32 °F). Temperature varies with depth, weather, and sunshine, so surface readings on calm, sunny days will be noticeably warmer than the water below.
Swimming at Hovatn is generally physically possible and not formally prohibited in most places, but conditions make it primarily suited to those prepared for cool-water swimming and rapid temperature change. Because the lake sits at higher elevation and can be affected by runoff, wind and sudden cold, swimmers should be cautious about hypothermia risk, limited beach access and any local reservoir operations that can alter water levels. Short swims, wearing a wetsuit or flotation aid, and checking local signage or guidance are sensible measures before entering the water.
