Location & Local Information
Lake Šas, known as Šasko Jezero, is located in the southern part of Montenegro near the town of Ulcinj. It lies close to the Adriatic coast and is connected by small channels to the Bojana River, creating a unique mix of freshwater and slight saline influence. The lake is shallow, which allows it to warm up quickly during the summer months. In spring, the water temperature ranges from 13 to 18 °C, while in summer it reaches 22–28 °C, sometimes even higher in shallow areas. In autumn, it cools to around 16–20 °C, and during winter it drops to 8–12 °C. Its moderate warmth and calm surface make it ideal for recreation and observing birds.
Swimming in Lake Šas is allowed and quite pleasant in summer, especially from June to September. The water is clean, and its temperature makes it comfortable for longer bathing. Due to its proximity to the sea, the climate around the lake is mild, and the swimming season lasts longer than in the mountain regions of Montenegro. In addition to swimming, visitors enjoy fishing, boating, and exploring the traditional villages nearby, making Lake Šas a peaceful and naturally rich destination.
