*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake of the Woods in southern Oregon is a relatively high‑elevation reservoir whose surface temperatures fluctuate substantially with the seasons. In spring, as snowmelt cools inflows, surface water typically ranges from roughly 35–50°F (2–10°C). Peak summer warmth usually brings surface temperatures into the neighborhood of 50–68°F (10–20°C) on sunny afternoons, though deeper or shaded areas stay cooler. In autumn the water cools again to around 45–58°F (7–14°C), and in winter the lake often approaches freezing with surface temperatures near 32°F (0°C) and areas of ice cover at times.
Swimming is generally possible during the open‑water season, but conditions and safety vary. Because the lake stays relatively cold even in summer, swimmers can experience cold‑water shock and rapid loss of body heat; wearing a wetsuit, limiting immersion time, and staying close to shore are common precautions. Winter swimming is not advisable when ice is present. There may be no lifeguards or formal supervision, so visitors should assess current conditions, water clarity, and weather before entering and follow local rules and posted advisories.
