** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Emigrant Lake, a reservoir near Ashland in southern Oregon, experiences noticeable seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In spring the lake is typically cool, roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C) as snowmelt and runoff dominate. By summer the surface often warms to a comfortable range around 65–80°F (18–27°C) on sunny days, making late July and August the warmest months. Temperatures start to decline in fall to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) and in winter the lake can be quite cold, commonly 35–50°F (2–10°C) depending on air temperatures and inflow. Deeper water stays colder year-round, so even in summer sudden drops in temperature can occur with changes in depth or wind-driven mixing.
Swimming at Emigrant Lake is allowed in designated recreational areas when the park is open and no health or safety advisories are in effect. Park authorities sometimes staff beaches or post lifeguards during peak season, but conditions such as strong currents, steep drop-offs, boat traffic and occasional algal blooms or bacterial advisories can lead to temporary closures. For safety and comfort, summer offers the best conditions for swimming because surface temperatures are highest and lifeguard coverage and water-quality monitoring are most likely. Always check current park notices before entering the water.
