Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Diamond Lake, a high-elevation body of water in Oregon’s Cascade Range, stays relatively cool year-round. Typical surface temperatures in winter hover around freezing where ice can form, roughly 32°F (0°C) and sometimes slightly below at isolated spots. In spring and early summer the lake usually warms into the 40s to mid-50s°F (4–13°C) as snowmelt continues to influence inflows. Peak summer surface readings commonly range from about 55 to 68°F (13–20°C) on warm afternoons, though deeper water remains colder. By fall the surface generally cools back into the 40s to low 50s°F (4–11°C) as air temperatures drop and daylight shortens.
Swimming at Diamond Lake is permitted because the area is a designated recreational site with public beaches and access points, but it is not heavily supervised. Many visitors swim or wade in summer when surface temperatures are at their warmest, yet even then the cold water can produce rapid chilling and increase the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia. There are usually no lifeguards, so swimmers should exercise caution, limit time in the water, wear flotation if venturing farther from shore, and check local advisories for temporary closures or safety notices before entering.
