❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 50°F (10°C) to 54°F (12°C). The water is slightly warmer, but still cool for most people. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Crescent Lake in central Oregon tends to be a relatively cold mountain lake because of its elevation and snowmelt-fed inflows. Typical surface water temperatures change by season: in spring you can expect roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) as ice melts and runoff cools the lake; in summer the warmest surface readings commonly range from about 55–70°F (13–21°C) on sunny days; autumn sees a gradual decline to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C); and in winter the lake approaches freezing, often near 32–36°F (0–2°C) with ice present in many years. Deeper water remains colder year-round, so overnight or long swims can expose swimmers to much lower temperatures than surface measurements suggest.
Swimming is generally allowed at Crescent Lake because it is a public recreational waterbody used for boating, camping and day use, but there are no lifeguards and seasonal or site-specific restrictions can be posted by land managers. The main reasons to be cautious are the cold water temperatures that increase the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia, variable weather and boat traffic. Visitors should observe posted advisories, avoid prolonged immersion in cold conditions, and take standard safety precautions such as wearing a life jacket when entering the water from boats.
