** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Gerber Reservoir is a relatively cool, high-desert impoundment, so water temperatures vary markedly through the year. In winter the surface can hover near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring thaw and snowmelt generally keep temperatures low, commonly in the 40–55°F range (4–13°C). By early summer the surface warms into the mid-50s to mid-60s Fahrenheit (about 13–18°C), and during the warmest late-summer weeks it may reach the upper 60s to around 70°F (15–21°C) at the surface on sunny days. In autumn the reservoir cools again, slipping back into the 40s and 50s °F (4–13°C) as air temperatures fall.
Swimming at Gerber Reservoir is generally permitted because it is managed for multiple recreational uses, but it is informal rather than lifeguarded or regulated as a beach. Because the water stays cool even in summer, swimmers should beware of cold-water shock and quickly tiring conditions; the lake’s depth, drop-offs and limited nearby services add risk. Boating and fishing are common, so swimmers should watch for boat traffic. Visitors are advised to check posted signs and local management notices before entering the water, wear a PFD if conditions warrant, and take usual precautions for remote, unguided recreation.
