** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Minnie-Belle’s surface water follows the familiar seasonal cycle of shallow Minnesota lakes. During winter months the lake typically approaches freezing, with surface temperatures around 32°F (0°C) when ice is present and slightly higher under the ice, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). In spring the water climbs through the 40–60°F range (4–15°C) as ice-out and warming proceed. Peak summer surface temperatures are most often in the mid-60s to mid-70s °F, roughly 18–24°C, and in warm, calm bays can briefly reach the upper 70s °F (25–27°C). In autumn the lake cools back toward the 40–60°F band (4–15°C) before refreezing in late fall or early winter.
Swimming at Lake Minnie-Belle is commonly possible during the open-water season, but whether it is advisable depends on conditions and access. Public swimming is generally allowed where there is public shoreline or designated beach access, though private ownership, posted restrictions, water-quality advisories, or hazardous conditions can prohibit swimming. Temperature affects comfort and safety: water below about 60°F (15°C) often feels cold and increases the risk of cold shock or hypothermia with prolonged exposure, while mid-summer temperatures are usually comfortable for recreation. Visitors should check local signage, recent water-quality reports, and prevailing weather before swimming.
