*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cedar Island Lake in northern Minnesota follows the familiar seasonal pattern of shallow temperate lakes. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures typically range from roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C) through May and early June, warming into the 60s–70s°F (16–24°C) by late June and July. Peak summer surface temperatures often reach about 70–80°F (21–27°C) on warm afternoons, with cooler temperatures a few feet below the surface. In autumn the surface cools back through the 50s–40s°F (10–5°C) as the lake mixes, and under winter ice the water column approaches near-freezing conditions, commonly around 33–39°F (0.5–4°C) near the bottom.
Swimming is commonly possible at Cedar Island Lake where shore access or public landings exist, and many people swim there in the warmest months because summer surface temperatures are comfortable for bathing. However, swimming may be limited by shoreline ownership, seasonal watercraft traffic, or natural hazards, and cold-water safety is a concern outside mid-summer: spring and fall waters can cause cold shock and reduced endurance, and winter conditions are unsafe for ordinary swimming. Visitors should use established access points, heed local signage and advisories, and judge onset and duration of swimming activity by current water temperatures and weather.
