** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Jennie, like many small inland lakes in Minnesota, experiences pronounced seasonal swings in surface water temperature. In spring the water typically warms from near freezing after ice-out to roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) as runoff and cooler air keep temperatures low. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly range from about 65–78°F (18–26°C), with the warmest values occurring in shallow bays and on sunny afternoons. In early fall the lake cools to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures drop, and by late fall through winter the surface will approach freezing and the lake often forms an ice cover at or below 32°F (0°C).
Swimming at Lake Jennie is possible during the warmer months when conditions and local rules permit, because recreational use of lake shorelines is generally allowed unless restricted by signage or private property limits. Decisions to swim should be guided by water quality advisories (for example, harmful algal blooms or bacterial contamination), visibility and weather, and awareness of cold-water shock early and late in the season. In winter, open-water swimming is unsafe due to ice and near-freezing water; organized ice swimming or plunges require specialized safety measures and are not recommended without experience and support.
