*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Nest Lake in western Minnesota follows the typical seasonal cycle of shallow Midwestern lakes. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures rise from roughly 40–60°F (4–15°C) during April and May. In summer the surface often warms to about 65–80°F (18–27°C), with the warmest afternoons occasionally reaching the low 80s°F (around 28–30°C) on sunny, calm days. Deeper water remains substantially cooler through stratification, and by autumn temperatures decline again toward the 40–60°F (4–15°C) range as the lake mixes. In winter the lake surface approaches freezing, typically near 32°F (0°C), and depending on conditions may be ice-covered for several months.
Swimming in Nest Lake is commonly practiced where public access and shorelines allow, because it is a publicly accessible recreational water body. Local rules and conditions determine specific opportunities: maintained beaches or parks make swimming easier and safer, while undeveloped shorelines may be less suitable. Water-quality issues such as bacteria blooms or blue-green algae can occasionally prompt advisories that limit swimming, and water temperature in spring and late autumn can be uncomfortably cold and present hypothermia risk. Visitors should check current local advisories, observe posted signs, and use normal lake-safety precautions when entering the water.
