*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Clearwater Lake in Minnesota experiences a wide annual swing in surface water temperatures. In spring the lake typically runs cool, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the ice melts and the water stratifies. Summer brings the warmest conditions, with surface readings commonly in the neighborhood of 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm days and occasionally reaching the low 80s°F (27–28°C) during heat spells. By fall the water cools again to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) as air temperatures decline and mixing increases. In winter the lake is usually ice-covered; open-water temperatures near the ice are at or just above freezing, approximately 32–39°F (0–4°C), while deeper water remains somewhat warmer but still cold.
Swimming is generally allowed in Clearwater Lake during the ice-free months because summer and early fall temperatures reach comfortable ranges for recreational bathing, and many shorelines and public access points are used for that purpose. Swimming is not advisable while the lake is ice-covered for safety reasons, and water quality advisories—such as blue-green algae blooms or bacterial warnings—can temporarily restrict swimming even in summer. As with any Minnesota lake, choosing designated beaches or monitored areas and observing posted advisories and common-sense precautions helps reduce risks associated with cold water and changing conditions.
