*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Waverly Lake in Minnesota experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in water temperature typical of small northern lakes. In spring the lake usually warms from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and days lengthen. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach about 70–78°F (21–26°C) in shallow, sheltered areas, while deeper or wind-exposed spots may be a few degrees cooler. By early fall the surface cools back toward 50–65°F (10–18°C) and in winter the lake is often ice-covered with surface temperatures at or just below freezing (32°F / 0°C) and liquid water beneath the ice generally remaining near the low 30s to upper 30s °F (about 0–4°C).
Swimming in and around Waverly Lake is typically possible during the ice-free months where public access or private shoreline allows it, but availability depends on local rules, posted advisories and water quality. Warmer summer temperatures make swimming comfortable for most people, whereas spring and fall swims can feel very cold and increase risk of cold-water shock or hypothermia. Periodic algal blooms or bacterial contamination can prompt temporary closures, and ice on the lake in winter makes open-water swimming unsafe except for organized, supervised events that follow strict safety measures.
