** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Green Lake in Minnesota typically follows the seasonal pattern of Midwestern lakes, with water temperatures that change markedly through the year. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures commonly range from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake mixes and warms. By early to mid-summer the surface usually warms to about 60–75°F (16–24°C), and at peak summer days it often reaches the low 70s to around 80°F (21–27°C) in shallow, sun-exposed areas. As autumn arrives the temperature drops back toward the 50–60°F (10–16°C) range, and in winter the lake is generally at or near freezing under ice, around 32–34°F (0–1°C).
Swimming is generally allowed during the warm months when public beaches and access points are open and posted advisories are absent; the higher summer temperatures make recreational swimming comfortable. Local authorities may close beaches or discourage swimming when water-quality problems occur, such as harmful blue-green algae blooms or elevated bacterial counts, and cold spring or fall water can pose a risk of cold shock even if not icy. In winter the frozen surface prevents normal swimming and any ice activities should only occur with proper safety checks and official guidance.
