*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Chazy Lake, in northeastern New York, experiences marked seasonal changes in water temperature. After ice-out in spring, surface temperatures typically rise from the low 30s–60°F (0–16°C) between April and June, with early spring waters feeling very cold. In summer months, July and August, surface temperatures commonly range from about 65–75°F (18–24°C), and on warm afternoons can approach the mid-70s°F (around 24°C) in shallow bays. By early fall the lake cools again, with surface readings often between 50–60°F (10–16°C) in September and October, and by winter the surface freezes or is at near-32°F (0°C) where ice forms. Deeper water remains colder year-round and lakes of this size can develop thermoclines that keep bottom temperatures noticeably lower than the surface.
Swimming in Chazy Lake is possible and commonly done during warm months where shore access exists, but there is no universal lifeguard coverage and local rules or private ownership can restrict access in places. Summer water temperatures around 70°F (21°C) are generally comfortable for most swimmers, while cooler spring and fall conditions can be brisk and increase risk of cold-water shock. Winter ice cover makes swimming hazardous except for specifically organized, supervised activities. Visitors should check posted advisories, respect private property, and consider water temperature, weather and safety equipment before entering the water.
